It seems the Japanese government is getting stricter about the penalties for people who don’t self isolate when returning to Japan. With the increase in Coronavirus numbers, we should all be staying home as much as possible! Thankfully we are an online English school so we can continue our classes safely and easily.
Today was our vocabulary day. I think vocabulary is one of the hardest aspects of learning a language. Not only do you constantly have to be learning more, and there are so many words to be learned, but you have to be actively maintaining what you already know! It’s a constant battle! The two most important methods for increasing and maintaining vocabulary are repetition and context. Without these two activities, you will either forget a word / won’t learn new words or you won’t know how to use a word. My elementary school student learned this the hard way today. Despite being able to understand a lot of English, he realized producing the words himself is often a lot harder. That’s why in the Transposed Classroom, we know reading in English is so very important. With Kids A-Z , elementary school students can be in contact with a lot of vocabulary, both known and unknown, in one short story. Let’s keep working hard to learn new words!
