Congratulations to Learning A-Z on winning the 2021 Supes’ Choice award for Equity and Anti-Racism Champion! Learning A-Z is the parent company of the Reading Program, Kids A-Z, which we use in our lessons and homework here at the Transposed Classroom. Learning A-Z was awarded this honor because of its contents within its Meaningful Conversation books. These books are spread across many levels of reading and they address issues such as bullying, disabilities, differences in families/cultural/traditions, racism, and working together after difficult times such as disasters or even COVID!
This was one of the reasons why I wanted my students to learn English from Kids A-Z. Learning another language is our main goal at the Transposed Classroom but also learning another means being introduced to people that think and look different from them. These types of books were a huge decision-maker for me. Although many of the students may not be able to talk about these topics deeply in English yet, it is my hope that the students and parents can think about these issues together in their native tongue as well.
