It’s National Cat Day in Japan! Cat lovers, raise your hand! ME! Did you know that multiple countries have National Cat Days (many on differing days) and there seems to even be a International Cat Day. What’s not to love about these lovable creatures! But what I find interesting about these similar holidays are that they are often brought about for different reasons. Japan’s Cat Day is February 22nd because the sound of 2-2-2 resembles the sounds cats make in Japan (nyan, nyan, nyan). And in the title of this blog, I purposely misspelled ‘perfect” to mimic the sound cats make when they are happy, a common English pun.
Even though we take vocabulary, grammar, and study very seriously at The Transposed Classroom, being curious about the language or culture you are studying is something we try to communicate to our students online often. If your motivation isn’t coming from your own curiosity or aiming towards a lofty goal such as “I want to speak English in my job as a soccer coach in Europe!” then it’s going to hit a moment where it is hard to continue. Now most of us, or our elementary school-aged children, don’t usually have such a lofty goal, which means we need to somehow nurture their curiosity of English or English speaking cultures. If your child is refusing to study, why don’t you think about something they like and try to incorporate English into it. Even just a little may help them remember a few vocabulary words in a very short time!
