Does Rhyming Lead to Better Reading?

We recently read this cute little rhyming book. Although it has some hard animal names and action words in it, we think it would be the perfect book to read together with mom and dad.

Does your child have a hard time understanding how to read and relate rhyming words to each other? No problem! Although many English schools tend to use rhyming as a method to teach reading, and it can be a predictor of later reading ability, it shouldn’t be something that is stressed on a beginner reader. Letter and sound knowledge as well as word formation and blending are much more important to get a young child reading and often rhyming improves once the child begins to read.
