On today’s Direct broadcast, Nintendo reveals a huge new release coming in 2022. Splatoon 3, the third game in the series, is for the ever-popular Nintendo Switch, a video game console that many of my students love to play and discuss in our lessons. Not having one myself, I can’t get into the details of it but I know the struggle of screen time/game time and homework may be heightened during its release.
As an online English school for elementary school students and beyond, we know that the struggles between relaxing at home, doing homework, and screen time concerns were present even before you throw English study into the mix. We also know that, especially in Japan, your children most likely are very busy with elementary school or cram school and so the last thing your child wants to do is study English when they get home. We understand and sympathize! However, we also know that doing something every day, even for a short time, leads to improvement. Regardless of skill or emotions involved, that fact never changes. I imagine that you don’t want the money you spend and time you spend for your child’s English lessons to go towards gliding across the same level of English for years. If your child is having a busy day or is tired, why don’t you sit down with them and listen to one book or podcast? Even listening passively can help their English and this option includes no screen time and can often be done in less than 10 minutes. Let’s be creative to find different, fun, and relaxing ways to integrate English into our child’s life!
